Laguna Ocom is one of the many bodies of lagoons and cenotes situated about 18 Kilometers south of Felipe Carrillo Puerto on the way to Chetumal. Laguna Ocom is the property of the ejidatarios of Santa Isabel, a very small community in the heart of the Mayan thick forests surrounding Carrillo Puerto.

This huge lagoon was once the property of a Mexican Belizean venture which exploited wood in the Mayan jungle for many years. When the venture ended, the lagoon and several thousand hectares of thick wooded jungle was given to the ejido of Santa Isabel which continues to make their living from the jungle there today with strict government guidance.

Laguna Ocom is open for good projects in eco-tourism and educational help for the young people of the ejido who commute more than twenty kilometers daily on bicycle to attend school.
