With deep respect and a great affection, I propose the following idea of a
possible way to raise funds for some of the different projects that need to be
in effect consistently in our hometown for the benefit of all the people of
Akwukwu-Igbo.
There have been many observations of things that need serious attention, like
the infrastructures of the schools, and also an orientation that will encourage
the students to become the protectors of these infrastructures for the future,
once the rebuilding efforts have started.
I believe that we can achieve good results in these areas through a new
investment in culture and cultural activities which encourage the youth to
become a part of preserving these legacies through musical activities and
sports. I have been a part of groups that have used music and our culture to
raise funds for communities in the United States and Mexico for many years. I am
offering to use my experience here to launch a project that will be productive
for Akwukwu for a very long time.
Here is a plan from my simple point of view. It can be expanded to include other
artists, artistes and talents that we have from our areas who are willing to
work with us in achieving our objectives. Below are the two most important
objectives:
1. Forming a means of economic benefit for the people of Akwukwu_Igbo, at home
in the Delta state region of Nigeria, in Africa, with Roots And Wisdom music.
2. Sharing this economic benefit.
PARTNERS: All Akwukwu-Igbo intellectuals, social and indigenous organizations
all over the world.
ACTIVITIES: Sales of specially produced CD's and videos through live cultural
shows staged in association with Akwukwu-Igbo organizations all around the
world. Encouraging and promoting cultural talents to record and preserve our
music and language in order to share these with our new communities throughout
our "new world".
FIRST PROJECT: I volunteer A double CD package of 24 songs composed and recorded
by my band, "ROOTS AND WISDOM", as a tribute to Akwukwu-Igbo.
Thanks for your attention. Please feel free to ask me for more details if you
need it.
Soncerely,
Wisdom Ogbor

Good
thoughts, Wisdom. As per your first project, how do we get the CD? When we get
it, do we distribute/sell it for you at cultural events? More clarifications
required.
Cheers

Brother
Wisdom, this is a great concept and an idea whose time has come. I have a
suggestion, You will be able to contact more of all Akwukwu-Igbo intellectuals,
social and indigenous organizations all over the world, if you post this
information on Akwukwu progressve union Facebook page.
Most of the poeple you mentioned above are also members, and lets spread the
word.
And yes please, to add to what brother Chinedu said, how do we get our hands on
the CDs.

Great idea Wisdom. I will write fully on this & and my emails to you & see how we, the AIPU in London can fit this into projects and programes we are planing for the coming year. We hold and Annual Akwukwu day in London around July every year Wisdom. It might be a breat idea to start planing to attend the next one as we may include a musical programme to accomodate this. Let us talk.

Wisdom, as
already mentioned by all the "speakers" before me, this indeed is a most welcome
and great idea and I support the ideas expressed by all the individuals before
me. I believe there is a reason why we are all scattered in all the four corners
of the world and I believe that when the tidal wave of ideas begin to swell, we
will be in a position to tap into our collective ideas and the momentum would
definitely benefit us all and move our hometown, our state and our country
forward. Let us fine-tune this novel idea, and brainstorm on how this and many
others will come to fruition.
Also, word grabbed my ears recently that a Conference of all Akwukwu citizens
world wide will take place in Akwukwu, this Christmas. Plan on floating this
great idea at that convocation and/or showcasing your musical prowess.
Thanks for stepping out of your comfort zone and for this great suggestion. Keep
up the good work and do not be deterred.

I am happy to get these positive replies and also an interest to know more.
The CD’s can be produced, and sold through special cultural campaigns that broadly benefit Akwukwu. For example,
AIPU, (London Branch) uses the theme of “REPAIRING SCHOOLS INFRACSTRUCTURES IN AKWUKWU” or diving into bolder Agricultural sustenance themes. The local press is drawn into these themes and we gain from other communities that sympathize with us. Our culture is a big bonding asset that we have to make other people fall in love with our cause. So we raise more money emphasizing this culture.
I will give the right to Akwukwu-Igbo Progressive Union to reproduce an intial 1000 copies of special songs that I will record, or have recorded as tribute to Akwukwu and our people.
I invite Darlington Ike and other fine artists we have from Akwukwu to work on an appropriate art that honors Akwukwu so that we can incorporate this in the CD and visual productions.
I also like to include other musical materials that I can get copyrights clearance to use from other Akwukwu musicians who have recorded materials.
Cost of duplicating an initial
1000 CD’s is about $3,000.00 (US).
If AIPU invests for CD duplications, I will produce the music and product.
CD’s are shipped to all AIPU or Akwukwu organizations worldwide when they are ready to host cultural events fundraisers for Akwukwu. I can coordinate the dates with all groups to bring my band to play at the events for ticket sales. Sales of food and beverages are additional ways to raise money.
These events will involve our young ones through writing contests and other expositions of talents we have in the hosting community.
USE 100 CD’s for promotions with the press.
Sales and donations for 900 CD’s is at least $10,000.00 after expenses. If people who can pay more than twenty dollars for one CD do that, then the higher the amount of money that will be available for funding more Akwukwu projects
THIS IS YOUR MONEY, AKWUKWU-IGBO!!!!
